MESSAGE

Venture capital projects uniting Japan with the rest of Asia

The impetus for the establishment of GREE Ventures came from a desire to take on hands-on venture capital business, of which there were few cases in Japan at that time. Recently there is a demand for innovation in a variety of industries in Japan, and therefore the role of Ventures has become increasingly important. We believed that there were still too few entities that could stand with entrepreneurs to create new businesses and support them. We aim to be a “bridge” with the rest of Asia, giving a greater boost to companies, human resources and information exchange across borders, thereby expanding business across Asia instead of limiting ourselves merely to Japan. At the same time that GREE Ventures started business in Japan in 2011, we set up an office in Singapore and made advance investments to seize business opportunities in Southeast Asia. Not only major corporations but also venture enterprises are expected to expand business abroad, and we would like GREE Ventures to serve as the “bridge” to Asia.

Taking on the world's issues

GREE Ventures is a venture capitalist that aims to “support companies solving the issues that the world is facing”. We are focusing on overcoming three issues in particular. The first effort is to make the market more efficient by giving an online presence to all or part of the existing businesses or industries. Typical areas in which GREE Ventures invests are healthcare and finance. Next is restructuring as Internet-based services which by definition already have an online presence but are not optimized for new devices such as smartphones and tablets. Finally, there is the creation of services to maximize personal and organizational productivity in the light of future further diversification of how people work. GREE Ventures plans to continue to actively support innovation for solutions to those issues.
